Born and raised in West Seattle, Emma is an active performer and teacher throughout the Pacific Northwest.
She began playing the violin at age 8, but her journey to a musical career was far from smooth. As a slow learner, Emma had to learn how to develop creative and unconventional methods to overcome challenges to improve her practice sessions. This experience now fuels her passion for teaching, as she supports students who face similar difficulties. Emma offers personalized strategies that not only help them improve their skills but also reshape their mindset, empowering them to approach their musical endeavors in a sustainable way.
Emma has performed with numerous orchestras in Washington, including the Yakima Symphony, Olympia Symphony, Wenatchee Valley Symphony, and the Mid-Columbia Symphony. She has appeared on stage with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and sat concertmaster for multiple concerts with her university orchestra and chamber orchestra. Emma has also participated in various music camps and festivals, with her most notable experience being the 2019 Music & More Summer Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Her dedication has earned her several accolades, including first alternate in the Young Artist MTNA regional competition after winning first place in the Washington state round, where she performed Barber’s Violin Concerto and Beethoven’s Sonata No. 7. In 2018, she won the West Seattle Community Orchestra Concerto Competition with her performance of the first movement of Bruch’s Violin Concerto.
Emma graduated from Central Washington University in 2022, where she credits many of her musical opportunities to the generous support of the Funderburk Scholarship Foundation. During her time at CWU, she played a significant role in re-establishing the CWU ASTA club, serving as senator during her senior year.
Emma has had the privilege of studying under teachers including Carrie Rehkopf-Michel, Dr. Michelle Rahn, and Kim Roy. She has also participated in masterclasses with renowned artists, including Kathryn Votapek, Brendan Shea, Eduard Zilberkant, and David Perry.
When she’s not performing or teaching, Emma can be found exploring the Seattle coffee scene, following yoga tutorials from the comfort of her living room, or winding down from the day with a good book.
